Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro) is perhaps the most famous of all the ancient writers. He wrote three poems: The Eclogues, the Georgics, and his most famous - the Aeneid.
He was born as a peasant, and came to be known as a national treasure even during his lifetime by Ancient Romans. The works of Virgil mirror his belief for the end of the civil war and remain to this day a fantastic insight into epic poetry of the time.
An interesting fact about Virgil is that he was heavily influenced by Epicurean philosophy, but later came to embrace the Stoic ideals most famously denoted by Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius.
