A Scotsman, Hume, was a well rounded individual, who was a philosopher, historian, economist, librarian, and an essayist.

His most well known works include: A Treatise of Human Nature, the Enquiries concerning Human Understanding, concerning the Principles of Morals. and Dialogues concerning Natural Religion.

His most famous work, a Treatise of Human Nature is an essay centred around moral reasoning, inspired by Isaac Newton's approach to science. It looks at empiricism, scepticism, and naturalism, all done in the context of psychology. In the essay, Hume concludes that humans are driven by passion rather than reason.
