A History of England, From The Invasion of Julius Caesar To The Revolution in 1688. In eight volumes by David Hume. Published in 1782 by T. Cadell in the Strand, London.


A fantastic very early edition of David Hume's famous masterpiece, first printed between 1754 and 1761. A very scarce early edition rarely seen available for sale beautifully leatherbound in what appear to be the original bindings.

Condition: Good (G / G+)


Minor wear to spines with some damage to one tooled label, and three tooled labels lacking. Some wear to headcaps and tails. All boards, but one, attached with joints and hinges broken, secured with binding tape and with some repairs; repair to the front hinge in volumes two, three, and eight. Front board of volume seven detached. Very minor scuffing, rubbing, and scratches on boards. Pencil ownership inscription on preliminary pages. Small wax stamp on front pastedown in volume one. Discolouration to pastedown and endpaper edges. Light toning and very minor foxing on frontispiece and title page in volume one. Text blocks fairly clean with very minor foxing. Small repair to preliminary page and title page in volume four. Tape repair to the hinge between preliminary and half title in volume five. Hinge broken between preliminary and half title in volume six. Repair to the hinge between preliminary and half title in volume seven.
