Verne was a French novelist, poet and playwright, who wrote one of the first science fiction novels.
His career began with some small publications in the Musée des familles (a French periodical). For a long time, he wrote as a side venture while he worked a regular job, one being a stock broker.
Verne wanted to combine science with fiction and adventure. Add some fantasy to reality. The ambition resulted in his famous series of Extraordinary Voyages - which comprised of 54 novels, including Journey to the Center of the Earth, From the Earth to the Moon, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Seas, Around the World in Eighty Days, and the Mysterious Island.
