John Milton
Milton was an important man of his time as an author and an intellectual. He could write in English, Italian and Latin. He gained fame in his lifetime for his contributions to literature and society. His literary focus was on poetry, drama and prose.
His most renowned work, Paradise Lost, came about in a time of both religious and political debate. It included religious themes which overall detailed the fall of man. The poem, or epic, was so influential that it remains an important part of literature today.
His other works include: Paradise Regained, Areopagitica, Samson Agonistes, Lycidas, and L’Allegro.
