Dante Alighieri, commonly referred to as just Dante, was an Italian poet, philosopher, and writer.

He is most well know for his Divine Comedy, a poetical work that was the crown jewel of the medieval European literature. The narrative poem focused on the idea of afterlife, is split into three parts: Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise. The story is symbolic, philosophical, and filled with well known characters such as Virgil.

His other popular works include: La Vita Nuova (New Life), Convivio (The Banquet), De Vulgari Eloquentia (Eloquence in the Vernacular Tongue), De Monorchia (On the Monarchy), and Epistolae (Letters).
