-------------------
The 1788 edition of Laurence Sterne's works published by J. Rivington is a collection of the works of the English novelist and clergyman Laurence Sterne. The edition includes his most famous novel, "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman," as well as his other works, including "A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy" and his sermons. The edition is notable for its comprehensive nature, bringing together all of Sterne's major works in one volume. It also includes an introduction by the publisher, providing context and analysis of Sterne's life and work.
Size: 8vo, 11.5cm x 20cm x ~2cm each
Condition: Very Good (VG)
Some rubbing and dryness to spines which would aesthetically benefit greatly from the application of a leather conditioner (we recommend one by Otter Bookbinding). Some tooled labels lacking to spines with what appears to be labels reattached to volumes 1 and 2. White ink/paint (?) to bottom of spines as commensurate with provenance (Maynard & Outram Smith library stamp to ffep). Some wear to joints and hinges but all boards are attached. Internally collated as complete including plates. Internally excellent condition, very clean without foxing etc but with very sparse staining affecting only a few leaves in the set. Some offsetting to preliminaries as commensurate with the calf binding and age. Likely the original full calf bindings.
Overall a very handsome set of the works of Laurence Sterne.
