A highly scarce book rarely seen for sale, by the author of The Last of the Mohicans and a key figure in the Romantic literary movement.

A novel based on Cooper's travels to Switzerland, comparing the social and political culture of America and Switzerland.
Size: 19 x 12.5 x 2 cm each.
Condition: Very Good (VG+)
Text block, VG+, extremely clean with very sporadic and very minor foxing. Title paged VG+, very clean with very minor foxing. Minor rubbing to the spines. Tooled label "Vol I" has minor rubbing going through the text but it is still legible. Headcaps are in near fine condition with very minor wear. Joints and hinges are secure with very minor wear, boards securely attached and bindings firm. Some scuffing and very minor wear to the boards. Minor dulling to the top page edges. Shelf wear and minor damage to corners. Light pencil inscriptions to front pastedown of the first volume from a previous bookseller. Minor foxing to pastedown and endpapers. Text block very clean. Bound without half titles, else complete.
