SOLD.
Pride and Prejudice, A Novel by Jane Austen. New Edition. Published in London by Richard Bentley in 1869. Finely bound in quarter morocco with highly attractive gilt and tooled labels.
-------------------
It’s increasingly rare to find early editions of Pride and Prejudice. Editions from the 1890s regularly sell for thousands, with the 1833 edition selling for several thousands of pounds (>£5k). This is the second Richard Bentley edition and one of the earliest editions one can come across without it costing £5,000+. This being in phenomenal condition helps, though of course with a very attractive contemporary fine binding. The peacock edition of 1894 often sells for £2500 and over, and we have sold this edition a couple of times.
This is the perfect book for any lover of Jane Austen! It would also make a very luxurious gift.
Size: 18.5 x 12.5 x 3.5 cm.
Condition: Very Good (VG / VG+)
Spine fine. Very small scratch on tooled label. Both boards securely attached. Very minor and very few scratches and marks on boards (only seen upon close inspection). Dulling to page edges with very minor foxing. Small pencil inscription on preliminary. Minor foxing on frontispiece and half title. The frontispiece has very lightly transferred to half title. Light toning and minor foxing on title page. Text block clean with very minor foxing.
