[taken from collecting-fleming]

The first three printings of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (OHMSS) were “export only” so not sold in the UK. The difficulty of finding a first edition at a reasonable price often prevents a collector of the PAN first editions from completing the set. Most first editions found have Canadian pricing to the front cover (60C) and typically sell for around £650 / $1000. Unpriced first editions are truly rare on the market and are worth at least twice the price of ones with 60c. Its always worth checking any copy of OHMSS you come across in case its a first edition, unfortunately later editions are worth far, far less!

——————————

The spine of this very rare book is practically always darkened & discoloured (a bit like Moonraker). The first three impressions were very prone to this occurring.

There are 3 versions of the first edition first impression, this being the rarest and most desirable being both unpriced to the cover AND without “not for sale in the UK” to the back cover with the blue title.

Size: 18 x 11.5 x 1.5 cm.

Condition: Very Good (VG / VG+)

Text block extremely clean with toning. Foxing on pages 199-206. Very minor sticker residue on front board with some minor loss to front cover. The assumption is that this was a pricing sticker. Minor sunning on front board. Minor marks and sunning on the rear board. Very minor wear to boards. Very minor text block and spine separation in the rear of the book. Very minor partial page break between the first page and title title page, and between the title page and dedication.

Absolutely the best copy of this very rare book one is likely to encounter.
