SOLD.
The correspondence of George Sand from 1812-1876, published in Paris in 1882 (vols 1-4) and 1884 (vol 5), 8vo.
A beautifully finely bound set in half morocco with intricate gilt detailing to the spines in compartments with raised bands. Title compartment "CORRESPONDANCE DE GEORGE SAND". The bindings are unsigned or stamped, but remain stunningly finely bound.
This appears to be 5 of 6 volumes and thus incomplete, with correspondence up to 1870, lacking the sixth volume.
-------------------
Provenance: Formerly in the collection of the de Rothschild family housed at Chateau de Champs.
Condition: Good Plus/Very Good (G+/VG-)
Bindings VG+ with slight damage to the head of the spine of volume one and light shelf wear. Boards with some discolouration, the rear board of the first volume being the most affected. Shows beautifully on the shelf. Some discolouration to page edges with top gilt page edges near fine/fine. Dampstaining throughout the bottom of the text block to volumes 1, 3, 4, most affecting 1. Light foxing towards preliminaries and endpapers, else text blocks mildly toned but clean.
