Case bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe / Zaehnsdorf. The book like quarter morocco leather bound case is in near fine condition and shows beautifully, preserving the book inside.


Desbonnet is often called the father of modern weightlifting. Les Rois de la Lutte is the rarest of his publications and one of the rarest sporting books there are. This being in its original binding protected with a beautiful bespoke Sangorski & Sutcliffe case is likely the best example one can ever find of this incredibly rare book, and from our searching, the only example currently on the market.

Text block extremely clean with toning and very sporadic very minor foxing. Very minor rubbing to headcap of case. Very minor rubbing to the boards of the case. Some small pencil inscriptions inside the case. Binder's stamp inside the case. Very small sticker inside the case. Book rebound using original paper. Library sticker from on front board. Toning and minor marks on boards. Front hinge repair.
