This is a coming-of-age novel that follows the life of its eponymous protagonist, David Copperfield. The story is written in the first person, allowing the reader to experience David's growth and development from a young boy to a mature adult. Set in 19th-century England, the novel offers a detailed insight into the social and economic conditions of the time, as well as touching on themes such as poverty, education, love, and family. The novel is notable for its vivid and memorable characters, including the lovable but eccentric Mr. Micawber, the cruel and abusive Mr. Murdstone, and the kind and generous Betsey Trotwood. David's journey is also intertwined with the stories of his friends and family, including his mother Clara, his loyal friend Steerforth, and his childhood sweetheart Dora.
